Brand History: Oroton is a luxury Australian accessories brand. Founded in Sydney in 1938 the company initially imported high quality European fabrics for the fashion trade. In 1951 it produced an elegant gold metallic mesh powder compact, having discovered the material in an industrial safety glove factory in Germany. It was hugely popular and very successful ranges of gold and silver metal mesh evening bags and purses (all made in West Germany) were produced throughout the 1960's and '70's. The bags became a symbol of the label’s “relaxed glamour” and it was asked to produce a limited-edition purse for the opening of the Sydney Opera House in 1973.
The brand, with its rich and long heritage is still popular in Australia. On the 2014 Royal Tour of Australia the Duchess of Cambridge carried an Oroton blue calfskin clutch. One of only three key Australian brands she chose to wear on the tour.
